Sepsis and Pyrexia of Unknown Origin

If obvious focus of infection; e.g. pneumonia, pyelonephritis, see relevant section of the guideline

Please note individual protocols are available at ward level for known patients

Take blood cultures, urine and respiratory samples (if available) prior to starting treatment

Serological testing - Consider extra EDTA blood sample for N.meningitidis, H.Influenzae, Strep. Pneumoniae

Sepsis or febrile illness (source unknown) - community acquired

Neutropenic Sepsis (Neutrophil count <1 x109/L)

Central venous access device related sepsis e.g. PICC line or central line
