The administration of ciprofloxacin may be followed by anaphylactic reactions. Healthcare staff should give out information sheets that include the risk of side effects and be prepared to deal with allergic reactions. It can also interact with other drugs but a single dose is unlikely to have a significant effect. It has an unpredictable effect on epilepsy.

Further information including alternative regimens and information sheets can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government in the section on meningococcal disease.
